The AIG Scholarships were introduced in 2017 to give exceptional West Africans interested in a career in public service the chance to pursue a Master of Public Policy at the University of Oxford's Blavatnik School of Government. Since 2017, 27 scholarships totaling more than £50,000 have been given to aspiring public sector executives who have shown a love for the field.
The AIG Scholars spend a year at one of the finest universities in the world where they engage with other international future public sector leaders and learn from exceptional academic teachers and professional practitioners. Scholars return to their home countries after earning their degrees and use what they have learned to strengthen policymaking, support reforms, and advance their nations' development.
The AIG Scholarships will only be available to candidates who are already employed in the government starting in 2022. Candidates must be between the ages of 25 and 50, possess a high level of intellectual capacity, have leadership abilities, and be passionate about advancing Nigeria's civil service.
Concerning the Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG)
Five outstanding students from Ghana and Nigeria will receive scholarships each year from the Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG) to study for a Master of Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government (BSG), University of Oxford.
After graduating, AIG Scholars are expected to go back to their home country and use what they've learned to effect change in the public sector there. Winners of the AIG Scholarship for the incoming MPP class beginning in September for the 2019/2020 academic year include Babafemi Adebola (Nigeria), Onyekachukwu Erobu (Nigeria), and Nasir Mohammed.

Qualification Criteria for AIG Masters Scholarships
To qualify for this prize, you must:
- Be a Nigerian currently employed in the federal or state government's ministries, departments, agencies, or parastatals.
- Be in the age range of 25 to 45.
- Possess at least seven (7) years of professional experience.
- Possess a bachelor's degree with a second-class higher qualification, at the very least.

- Applications that have been submitted online only will be taken into consideration.
- Finalists in the selection process will be required to submit an admissions application directly to the University of Oxford's Blavatnik School of Government. All assistance will be given during the application procedure.
- The AIG Scholarship will be taken into consideration for finalists who are admitted to the Master of Public Policy program.
