The "African Business Education Initiative for Youth" (hence referred to as the "ABE Initiative") has given up to 1,000 African youngsters the chance to study at Japanese institutions and complete internships at Japanese businesses.

The ABE Initiative seeks to develop leaders with the capacity to aid in the development of Africa in partnership with the Japanese business sector. JICA is seeking outstanding young South African citizens who are currently or plan to participate in industrial development initiatives in the public and commercial sectors and who have a strong desire to deepen bilateral economic connections

Objective and Benefits of ABE Initiative's Masters Scholarship and Internship Program

Qualification Standards for the ABE Initiative Masters Scholarship & Internship Program


Candidates must:
  • Being nationals of certain African countries.
  • Be younger than 40 (as of 1 April 2023).
  • Possess a working background.
  • Be in good enough physical and mental health to finish the program.
  • Bachelor's degree with honors or the equivalent of NQF8 or higher, including B-Tech.
  • A minimum grade point average of 65% in the course catalog possess a thorough understanding of the goals of the ABE Initiative.
  • Possess sufficient written and verbal communication skills in English.


Application Required Documents

  • Undergraduate Graduation Certificate * Officially certified copies of the original or copies that are copies of them are acceptable. * The certificate must be written in English or be accompanied by an official translation into English.
  • Academic transcript * The applicant's academic record at the university they attended must be included. It must be written in English or include an official translation into English for "Officially Certified Copies of the Original."
  • A photocopy of a valid passport (for checking nationality, name, sex, and date of birth). If you don't have a passport, a valid national ID and birth certificate will do. If the ID is not written in English, French, Portuguese, or Spanish, a certified English translation must be provided.
  • 2 ID photos (4 cm x 3 cm each) attached to the application (Original and copy).
  • (7) Health certificate (in JICA format) to be presented after the fourth selection (application) Photocopy of the certificate of the official English tests, etc., if any.
