Undergraduate Scholarships from the Korean Government for Developing Nations in 2022–2023

 Through the Korean Government Scholarship, the Korean government twice year invites 125 undergraduate and 700 graduate international students from 156 countries to study in Korea for degrees (undergraduate, master's, and doctoral) and non-degree research programs.

The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) is available to foreign students who wish to enroll at Korean universities to study bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. The fellowship aims to foster the development of global leaders, strengthen international networks supportive of Korea, and give overseas students the chance to pursue advanced studies at higher education institutions in Korea.

The Korean government extends invitations to 125 foreign students from 67 different nations who aspire to study for a bachelor's degree there. Any candidate must successfully complete the first screening process established by the Korean Embassy of his or her place of origin in order to be chosen as a GKS grantee.

[Student Track]

The Korean government welcomes 35 international students from 17 countries who want to pursue an associate degree in Korea, along with 119 international students from 72 countries who want to pursue a bachelor's degree in engineering or natural science. Any candidate must successfully complete the first selection procedure established by the designated universities in order to be chosen as a GKS recipient.

For further information about the application submission process, including the deadline, required materials, interview requirements, and other details, please get in touch with the first selection organizations (the embassy or university). The first round of selection's deadline for application submission may vary by embassy or university, although it is anticipated to be in late September or early October.

Each embassy or university that conducts the initial round of selection may have a different date for submission of applications.

Application materials are anticipated from:

  • Mid-September 2022 to October 2022 for undergraduates
  • Graduate: Between mid-February and March 2023

Qualifications for the Korean Government Undergraduate Scholarship

For the Korean Government Scholarship to be available to you, you must:

Citizenship
  • Candidates must be of non-Korean citizenship, as must their parents.
Age
  • KGSP-G: below 40
  • Under 25 KGSP-U
Health
  • Candidates for study in Korea must be in good physical and mental health.
Requirements for degrees
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree, KGSP-G
  • High school diploma: KGSP-U
Grades
  • The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) must be 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, or 3.23/5.0 or higher, or must be 80% or higher.


Date, Procedure, and Location of the Interview for the Korean Government Undergraduate Scholarship

First Selection: Applicants submit their applications to the affiliated Korean universities in Korea or to the Korean Embassies located across the world. In the first stage of selection, embassies and universities choose the successful applicants from the pool of applicants.
The NIIED will then receive the applications of the chosen individuals.

Second Section: The NIIED selection committee chooses the successful candidates from among those who made it through the first round in the second selection.

Third Selection: Universities will assess the applications of those who applied through the Korean Embassies among the successful candidates who made it through the second round and are eligible for admission. Candidates who are chosen for admission must be accepted by at least one of the universities.
