The Punocracy Prize for Satire 2022 is accepting applications now. Punocracy is a group of young satirists in Nigeria that was established in March 2018 with the goals of fostering free speech, fostering critical thinking, and fostering political awareness.
Their goal is to ignite interest in the genre and make satire a widely acknowledged and understood weapon of sociopolitical critique in the nation. In other words, they want to foster sarcastic literacy and provide a secure environment for satire creators and fans.
They are looking for submissions for the third edition of the Prize for Satire in order to further these objectives. They contend that satire should receive the same attention as other genres of writing, such as poetry and nonfiction, because it is crucial for forming public opinion and strengthening a country. A healthy rivalry is arguably the best method to achieve this.
About Punocracy
Our name, Punocracy, is a combination of the words pun (a hilarious word play) and kratos (Greek for rule, government or power). As a collective noun, it refers to the rule of puns or, if you prefer, punocrats, a new breed of brave, witty, and punny authors who aren't afraid to call a spade a spade.
Maybe not quite... Sometimes people just like to refer to it as a gigantic canine teeth that has a preference for soft ground. Or even something completely unrelated, but relying on the reader's intelligence to deduce what it is.
It means a lot to us to hold this position as Nigeria's first completely satirical site with numerous columnists. You may have noticed that we like to use pseudonyms. Please be aware that this is just part of the fun and not because our authors are cowards.
Don't let the word's casual resemblance to pornography deceive you. By experimenting with the convergence of language, humor, and socio-politics, we titillate your senses in a completely new way.
We want to be a gathering place for many varieties of Nigerian satirists, where society problems can be consumed, digested, regurgitated, and solved with the help of puns and wit. We also want to be your go-to source for everything satirical, so you can find us curating mouthwatering satirical meals from other websites.
You can always get in touch with us if you require ghost writers who are skilled at writing humor or satire.
At Punocracy, we frequently say and imply things that are not exactly what we mean. Thus, even while this implies that we are frequently misunderstood, it also implies that we are not writing for just anyone.
Hopefully, sarcastic literacy—the capacity to read and produce satire—will someday catch up with the rest of the world.
