Scholarship Program for Global Excellence and Mobility at Monash University in 2023


 The GEMS program intends to send the top PhD candidates to Monash University Malaysia so they can collaborate with world-class research teams on some of the most pressing issues facing humanity.

From 2022 to 2024, the GEMS initiative will award 15 scholarships each year, with beneficiaries receiving funding for 39 months. The program will include a paid placement in Australia for up to 12 months because each PhD student will be guided by a team of staff in Malaysia and Australia.

Aims and Benefits of PhD Scholarships at Monash University

  • For three years and three months, the Global Excellence and Mobility Scholarship waives all tuition fees (GEMS).
  • RM 2,800 per month for 27 months as a stipend in Malaysia.
  • a 37,000 AUD stipend per year for up to 12 months in Australia
  • a grant to help with the cost of moving to Australia and initial living expenditures.

Qualification/ Requirement for PhD Scholarships at Monash University

  • You must have a First Class Honours (H1) or its equivalent (H1E), as recognized by Monash Malaysia, in order to be eligible for GEMS.
  • Specific academic and English language requirements must be met.

  • Personal statement
  • Personal statement outlining your qualifications for the GEMS program (300 words)
  • Research proposals for no more than two priority research areas
  • English proficiency certification

  • A transcript of grades (Certified true copies with grading scales).
  • Curriculum vitae CV.
  • Personal statement outlining your qualifications for the GEMS program (300 words)
  • Research proposals for no more than two priority research areas
  • English proficiency certification (Based on Monash University English language requirements)
  • Candidates who have been shortlisted will be invited to a panel interview.
  • Successful candidates will get an invitation to apply letter outlining the requirements for submitting their applications.
