Tropical Forestry Masters Scholarships at the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) for Developing Nations in 2023

 For the DAAD Tropical Forestry Scholarships, applications are being accepted. Technische Universit├Ąt Dresden (TUD), one of the 11 German Universities of Excellence, offers the course in English.

The applicants will profit from their research's global scope and the lecturing scientists who will oversee your fieldwork in the tropics. The course covers subjects including carbon forestry, agroforestry, and land use change that are specifically connected to climate change, in addition to socioeconomic and general elements of tropical forestry. As a public institution, TUD does not charge tuition to its students.

About German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

365 German higher education institutions (100 universities and technical universities, 162 general universities of applied sciences, and 52 colleges of music and art) are represented by the private, federally supported and state-sponsored, self-governing DAAD scholarship in Germany (2003a). 

However, the DAAD does offer competitive, merit-based funds for use in support of study and/or research in Germany at any of the approved German higher education institutions. Additionally, it provides funding to researchers, doctorate students, and German students for study and research abroad.

The DAAD is the largest organization of its kind providing academic grants globally, with an annual budget of 522 million euros and a support network of over 140.000 people worldwide. The organization was established on January 1st, 1925, but was shut down in 1945 before being reopened in 1950.

Aims and Benefits of DAAD masters scholarships

  • Depending on academic standing, 850 euros per month for graduates and 1,200 euros per month for doctorate candidates
  • payments for personal liability, health, and accident insurance
  • Allowance for travel, unless the cost is covered by the home nation or another financial source.

Holders of DAAD Tropical Forestry Scholarships may additionally benefit from the following things under specific conditions:

  • monthly rent assistance
  • Monthly stipend for accompanying family members

Qualification Standards for DAAD Masters Scholarships

  • A university degree in forestry or a closely related field, such as agriculture, horticulture, land-use or regional planning, geography, water management/hydrology, biology, ecology, regional development, or natural resource governance, is required of applicants (at least a B.Sc. or an equivalent degree). Additionally, candidates must be proficient in English (TOEFL 80 iTB (550 PBT, 213 CBT) or have an IELTS 6.0 certificate if English is not their first language or the medium of instruction for their BSc) (please attach an attestation to your application files). Every year in October, classes begin (winter term).

  • Application form for TU (download and sign it after your registration in SELMA).
  • Personal statement (in English, hand-signed and with recent date).
  • Motivational letter (in English, two pages, hand-signed and with recent date).
  • Certificate of graduation from a university and relevant academic records (certified copies, including grading scale and certified translation if necessary).
  • English proficiency certification (e.g. TOEFL [minimum score: PBT 550, iBT 80], IELTS [minimum band 6.0] or Certificate of English as medium of instruction).
  • One current picture.
